A HANG-GLIDER has attributed his record-breaking 158-mile flight to good weather and friendly seagulls.

Nick Pain, 47, a technology teacher from Co Durham, succeeded in his 41st attempt at Britain's longest glide after the birds guided him to thermals which kept him airborne. He was in the air seven hours, between 2,500 and 4,000 feet, and covered the 158 miles in a single flight, six miles more than the previous British best.
