Style and design: Items and Icons: 100% Design

100% Design delivers exactly what its crisp label promises: cutting- edge contemporary design in furniture, lighting and accessories. Launched in London just two years ago, the show was staged rather cheekily to coincide with the decorating trade's in-house event, Decorex, in an attempt to prove that the frills and furbelows of the faded English country house have been eclipsed by a look that is European and modern. This year, there are 250 exhibitors representing an international team of the old guard like Italian maestro Vico Magistretti and the avant garde: Ross Lovegrove, Jasper Morrison, Matthew Hilton and Philippe Starck. "Blister" cabinets by the young British furniture makers Platt & Young for Driade display wonderful joinery and cabinet-making skills and an origami-like complexity. They cost from pounds 497 for single cabinets, pounds 756 for doubles, from Viaduct Furniture Limited (0171-278 8456)

The Cheap Chic stacking chair by Philippe Starck (above left) is bright, fun, inspired by the human torso and eminently affordable at pounds 89.
