Transformers products top search terms

"Transformers" was the most searched for term in the seven days prior to July 6, according to data from Google Insights. The popularity of the term is undoubtedly due to the recent release of the third instalment in the Transformers franchise - Dark of the Moon

Dark of the Moon was released around the world June 28-July 1. The film, which stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntigton-Whiteley and Tyrese Gibson, tells the story of on ongoing war between two races of robotic aliens that comes to Earth after the discovery of a powerful alien artifact during the Apollo 11 moon landing.

The film took in around $210 million internationally during its opening weekend.

According to Google Insights, the term "Transformers" in the category Products experienced a 90 percent growth in searches over the past week, more than any other product-related term.

A range of Transformers-related products are available on Amazon.com and at other retailers. Amazon has dedicated a section of its website to the film, and according to data from the online retailer, its best-selling Transformers Dark of the Moon product is the MechTech Voyager - Optimus Prime action figure which has a retail price of $22.99 (€16), outside of sales.

Other popular product searches over the past week, included Apple's iPod touch, Samsung's Android platform smartphone the Galaxy Ace and North American department store Sears.

The top search terms with the most significant growth worldwide, in the last seven days, in the category Products as  measured by Google Insights, recorded on July 6 were: 

01.   transformers (+90%)
02.   google.com (+50%)
03.   ipod touch 4g (+40%)
04.   samsung galaxy ace (+40%)
05.   sears (+40%)
