A modernist Indian restaurant is odd enough without adding the word 'bar' as well. The jazz-filled premises of this cafe-brasserie are a combination of stone, wrapped cloth and the odd highly carved Indian white-wood panel, with delightful triangular bar-stools and a handful of tables outside.
The staff match the decor in terms of how easy they are on the eye and will bring you free pappadoms to accompany your drink with a selection of pickles including - weird but wonderful - prunes. Snack food - Indian Welsh rarebit, Pakoras and other delights are spicy and decorative. You can eat full meals as well if you have time. Both buzzy and soothing.
