AN ESTIMATED 6 million taxpayers have failed to respond to the Inland Revenue Taxback campaign to refund overpaid tax on savings accounts. Most of the potential claimants are pensioners, children and non-working wives whose income falls below their personal tax allowances or under the 25 per cent tax band.

The TSB is giving away a free leaflet explaining the tax system called It's Gross - The People who Mug Your Pay Packet. Copies from It's Gross, 22 Endell Street, London WC2H 9AD.
