The former Yorkshire and England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott said last night he was prepared to take a lie detector test to prove he did not assault his former lover.

He spoke out publicly for the first time since being given a suspended jail sentence by a French court on Tuesday for beating up his ex-girlfriend Margaret Moore.

"I am cross and angry," said Mr Boycott, 57, who went on bitterly to criticise Ms Moore, 45. "Yesterday was a spectacular show. She put a show on for everyone," he told BBC1's Nine O'Clock News. When asked about the allegations, Mr Boycott said: "Make up your own minds. I have got no history of violence to anybody. I can knock down every point she made."
