A strong performance at Christmas helped Fortnum & Mason, the upmarket Piccadilly department store, achieve record profits in the six months to 21 January. Christmas sales were up 10.2 per cent on last year helped by a strong performance in menswear and the hamper business, which was boosted by stronger sales to the corporate sector after two slow years.
Interim pre-tax profits increased from £1.6m to £2m on sales of £18.7m.
