Police were yesterday investigating the deaths of two women thought to have committed suicide over fears of deportation.

Valentina Featherstone, 39, of Darlington, Co Durham, and her mother, Zinaida Mitrofanova, 63, were found hanged by Mrs Featherstone's husband. Mrs Mitrofanova, from Latvia, is thought to have been fighting a Home Office order to leave Britain.
