DIY test to show if sperm is in the pink

A home-testing kit to test for male fertility, based on a technique used to assess bull semen, goes on sale in Britain next month, writes Susan Watts.

The two-part colour test should help couples who have difficulty conceiving to gauge where the problem lies. Often it is the woman who is tested first.

The pounds 20 test indicates the number of a sample's mobile sperm by using dye. That goes pale pink if there are enough vigorous sperm to give a couple a 90 per cent chance of conceiving within a year. In infertile men it stays purple.
