Drivers calling for higher speed limit

TWO OUT of three drivers do not think speeding is a problem and nearly half want permitted motorway speeds to be raised, says a survey based on replies from nearly 1,000 motorists. More than seven in 10 drivers were against government proposals to ease congestion by charging motorists to enter urban areas.

The introduction of more speed cameras was opposed by 88 per cent of those in the survey, conducted by the insurance company Peoples Choice.

"British motorists want to keep driving, with many insisting on using the car even if public transport improves," said Philip da Silva, Peoples Choice managing director.
