Multimedia money

Primary schools are to receive an extra £5m from the Government for computer equipment. In addition to the £3m for CD-roms announced recently by Gillian Shephard, the Education Secretary, a further £2m is to be spent on multimedia computers.

Eric Forth, the schools minister, told the National Association of Advisers for Computers in Education's annual conference last week that while the growth of computers in schools had been rapid, it had not been consistent. Some areas had more to spend than others, he said, and invited schools to advise him on the best way forward.

Science plus

The National Week of Science, Engineering and Technology takes place from 17 March. It is organised by the British Association for Promoting Science and Technology with the aim of increasing public understanding of the subjects. Schools wishing to take part can book a speaker from the Talking Science+ project, which offers experts in every field of science.
