Pirates ahoy!

Primary schoolchildren can join the pirate ship Dark Light for an hour- long, swash-buckling adventure throughout the summer term at Eureka!, the Halifax science museum for children.

In a theatre workshop, children will be encouraged to extend and develop their mapping skills and problem-solving techniques as they help the resident pirate to locate hidden treasure.

Video projection, ultra-violet lighting and special sound effects enable the children to explore the world of piracy via rough seas and dangerous terrain.

Women's work

A free professional updating course for women is available at the University of Westminster from 25 September. The 14-week course will cover CV writing, interview practice, an introduction to word processing and computing, as well as assertion skills and networking for women.

Applicants should have a degree or its equivalent, or professional experience and have been out of full-time work for at least a year.
