A Peking factory worker turned soprano has won the Singer of the World competition, which was held in Cardiff on Saturday.
Guang Yang, 26, (pictured) won pounds 10,000 in the contest, as well as appearances at a London recital and concert engagements. Until 1991, Ms Guang worked in a factory, with colleagues standing in for her so she could attend singing lessons. She began formal voice-training and went on to win honours in Paris and Japan.
