Archaeologists have discovered an Anglo-Saxon grave in the middle of a US Air Force F-15 fighter base in Suffolk, it was disclosed last night. The grave dating from 550AD containing a horse and rider, who was buried with great ceremony, was unearthed at RAF Lakenheath. The British Museum described the grave as "a very special find", explaining that the burial of the man and horse together was often seen in mainland Europe but not in Britain. The horse's remains feature a decorative harness still in place, which will allow archaeologists to reconstruct exactly how it was worn nearly 1,500 years ago.
