i Deputy Editor's Letter: Doing our bit to address the male bias

We in the media are often accused of a male bias, especially when it comes to sport, but here at i we’re trying to do our bit to address that agenda. As much as we would like to mop up every bead of sweat shed in the name of competition, resources often present a frustrating barrier.

So when an opportunity arises, we try and make the most of it. Today, we look at medal hopes for the Winter Olympics in Sochi. It is down to the women that the British team is hoping for its best haul since 1936.

Elsewhere, rugby’s Six Nations tournaments launched yesterday – the men’s and the women’s, although you wouldn’t know from a quick internet search. In Australia this morning Charlotte Edwards leads England’s cricketers in their bid to retain the Ashes (full report tomorrow), and Jordanne Whiley reached her first Grand Slam singles semi-final in the Australian Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships.

They are small steps in a big world, and we still want to cover more. With your support and continued interest, together we can change the landscape.
