British and American tourists held captive in India by Kashmiri separatists issued a dramatic audio-taped plea for help this weekend, together with photographs of two of them suffering from injuries, writes Peter Victor. In a tape released on Friday by the rebels, an American tourist, Donald Hutchings, says he has been shot, and a British hostage is seriously injured with a broken leg.

The rebels, in a statement accompanying the tape, said three of their five Western hostages were critically ill and could die.

Photographs accompanying the tape showed Mr Hutchings and Keith Mangan, 33, of London, swathed in bloodstained bandages.
