IVF egg share move

THE SYSTEM of "egg sharing" for women trying to conceive through IVF treatment may be banned after a woman trying for a baby learnt another patient had been successful using one of her donated eggs, it was revealed yesterday.

The donor had agreed to allow some of her eggs to be given to others at a private clinic in exchange for a free attempt at IVF treatment which failed to make her pregnant. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, which is considering whether to ban "egg sharing", would like more women to give eggs but without a financial incentive.

The HFEA meets on Thursday to discuss consultations on egg donation. "The woman did not get pregnant but the other woman did, and the donor became upset," a spokesman said.
