Janet Street-Porter appointed editor of Independent on Sunday
JANET STREET-PORTER, the new editor of the Independent on Sunday, publishes her opening statement to readers in today's newspaper.
Ms Street-Porter, 52, was appointed to the editor's chair last Wednesday and will take up full editing duties this week after completing her television filming commitments. Welcoming the chance to edit one of Britain's national broadsheet newspapers, she said: "I am very excited about editing such a respected newspaper. The Independent on Sunday's individuality and style have always been its greatest assets. I look forward to developing the title further and bringing a fresh approach to the Sunday newspaper market."
Ms Street-Porter began her eclectic media career as a fashion columnist on the Daily Mail at the age of 21 after studying architecture.
She is most closely associated with the development of youth programming on television, winning awards for both Channel 4 and the BBC, where she was a senior executive for seven years, including a Bafta for originality.
Ms Street-Porter, who collects modern art, has also been president of the Ramblers' Association.
