Marr to edit 'Independent'

Andrew Marr, the political columnist, will be the next editor of The Independent, it was announced on Friday. Mr Marr, who is 36, was a member of the founding staff of the newspaper when it launched in 1986. He later wrote for the Scotsman and the Economist before returning in 1992. He takes over on 15 May; Colin Hughes, another founding staff member, will be his deputy. Photograph by JOHN VOOS
