ANOTHER 3,000 jobs are set to go at VSEL, the Trident nuclear missile submarine builder. Until four years ago the Barrow company employed more than 14,000 people. The number has since fallen to around 8,000, and recession and defence cuts mean the management now expects the workforce may shrink to as little as 5,000. Last week the aero-engine maker Rolls-Royce said it was cutting 5,000 jobs.
