Graeme Obree, Scotland's former world pursuit champion and hour record holder, smashed his own course and event record in yesterday's Isle of Man open 25-mile time trial.

Obree, riding his new "Superman" position, stormed round the Bishopscourt course near Kirk Michael in 51min 41sec to shave four seconds off his 1992 mark. He left the rest of the field trailing, finishing 2min 45sec ahead of Pete Longbottom in second place.
