OJ lined up for Richard and Judy
OJ Simpson is flying to Britain to star in a new chat show with Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan for a nominal fee of pounds 1, programme makers said yesterday.
The former American football star, acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman, is set to launch ITV's Tonight with Richard and Judy on Monday, 13, May. As part of the trip, organised by publicist Max Clifford, he will also address the Oxford Union when students will question him on aspects of the sensational trial. It is his first major foreign public trip since being acquitted last October.
Granada TV confirmed yesterday that Simpson had been booked to launch the new series of chat shows with Madeley and Finnigan, who gained fame presenting the This Morning day time show.
Mark Gorton, editor of the new programme said that as well as the pounds 1 fee Granada will pay travel and accommodation costs for Simpson and his entourage.
Mr Clifford said the Oxford Union appearance will be on Tuesday, 14 May. "OJ is happy, looking forward to speaking to the students," he said.
