MORE THAN 480,000 passport applications are outstanding - representing one month's work for the Passport Agency because of teething problems with computer equipment at passport offices in Liverpool and Newport and high seasonal demand, the Home Office minister Mike O'Brien said. Average turnaround time has risen from eight working days in June 1997 to 34 working days.
