Andy Murray rushed straight from the tennis court to a Melbourne hospital on Saturday after his father-in-law Nigel Sears collapsed during the Australian Open.

Sears coaches Ana Ivanovic and was in the stands watching the Serbian player's match with Madison Keys when he fell ill and had to be treated by medics.

Ivanovic appeared distressed on the court and soon departed the Rod Laver Arena. The match was suspended for an hour before resuming again.

Sears is conscious, receiving medical treatment and reportedly talking in hospital, where he is undergoing tests.

Murray was playing against Joao Sousa and was not aware of his father-in-law’s collapse. He left immediately after his four-set win with his mother Judy to travel to the hospital. Kim, who is heavily pregnant, is not in Melbourne.

His brother Jaimie told the Press Association the 58-year-old is “sitting up and talking” in hospital.
