MAY I add a small footnote to the obituaries of Derrick Amoore (by Robert Rowland, Charles Wheeler and Edward Barnes, 4, 8 and 9 September)? writes Hal Austin.
Derrick, against great resistance from senior members of his staff, nurtured a generation of young (and not so young) black journalists during his time as manager of Radio London.
His commitment to the programme Black Londoners - which I produced for two years - and his subversive placing of young Asians, Africans and West Indians in the newsroom and on other programmes was greatly appreciated.
