Camelot, the National Lottery operator, revealed it has sold its billionth scratchcard just six months and 21 days after the launch of its pounds 1 instant- win tickets. The National Council on Gambling said it was "disturbing and worrying" that so many people had become addicted to buying the cards, and called for stricter controls on availability.
