CENTRES of excellence are to be set up across Britain to tackle the shortage of people with computer skills, David Blunkett, the Secretary of State for Education, announced yesterday.
Colleges, companies and training and enterprise councils are being invited to bid for a slice of a pounds 90m fund to help people update their computer skills. Mr Blunkett said at least 40 centres, aimed at workers in engineering and manufacturing, would be set up by the end of the year.
