WASHINGTON - The United States last night told Aleksandr Lysenko, a senior Russian diplomat, to leave the country within seven days.
The expulsion, which follows the arrest of Aldrich Hazen Ames, the high-ranking CIA officer accused of working for Moscow since 1985, makes a 'tit-for-tat' war increasingly likely. It came barely 24 hours after a US delegation returned from Moscow, where it had failed to resolve the dispute.
