Hoover, the electrical giant, yesterday announced an urgent modification programme to some of its washing machines and washer dryers after recent safety fears.
It believes some of its New Wave models, in production since 1993, may leak wash liquid and pose a fire risk.
Owners are being advised to contact the company to arrange for engineers to carry out free modifications. The machines may continue to be operated but should not be used unattended or left switched on. Freephone 0800 212335 for advice.
