Astronaut Tim Peake captures amazing Northern Lights timelapse from space

This show of lights is normally only seen up north

British astronaut Tim Peake tweeted a timelapse of the Northern Lights that he filmed from space.

The Northern Lights, also known as an aurora, are a natural display of lights in the sky that are typically only seen in high latitude regions such as the Arctic and Antarcitc.

Major Peake, who filmed the lights display from the International Space Station, is scheduled to return to earth in June, following the completion of a six-month mission in space.

Today he conducted his first live television interview from space, during which he stated that establishing a “Moon colony” could by the next step in space research.

"It enables us to investigate many of the challenges we're going to face in terms of radiation exposure, (and) energy production," he said about the potential research.
