THE 1993 Which Computer? show, due to take place in April, has been cancelled. Its organisers, Reed Exhibitions, said it had too few exhibitors signed to offer 'a decent show' to the anticipated 40,000-50,000 visitors.
The move is no big surprise. Although the 12-year-old show was once a key event in the computer industry's calendar, in recent years computer companies have preferred to exhibit at specialist shows. If a company is concentrating sales in the manufacturing or retail sectors, it will attend shows tailored to customers in those fields.
Valerie Thompson, marketing director at Reed Exhibitions, said people had delayed decisions to take part until the last minute - often waiting to see whether competitors were going. The larger computer companies, in particular, tended to say no very late.
