A spaceplane being developed by Sir Richard Branson has completed its first test flight successfully, reaching a height of 47,000 ft and hitting speeds of Mach 1.2, breaking the sound barrier.
Although Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo did not break out of the atmosphere, the test results have brought the project a step closer to taking passengers on suborbital flights around the earth.
