The former minister Sir Nicholas Scott faces deselection by the his local Tory party, which has called an emergency meeting to discuss recent reports about his behaviour. Members of the Kensington and Chelsea Conservative Association executive committee will convene on November 4 to consider the MP's future.

They are deeply unhappy about last week's incident at the Conservative conference in Bournemouth in which he was taken back to his hotel by police after being found lying on the pavement. He said painkillers for a back problem reacted with a "small amount" of alcohol. Earlier this year he was banned and fined pounds 600 for drink-driving.
