Tagging extended

Trials of the electronic tagging of offenders are to be extended for a further year, the Home Secretary confirmed this afternoon.

Michael Howard said it would be helpful to give the courts more time to become familiar with tagging and the accompanying curfew orders and "for it to find its place among other community sentences".
