The BBC's Arabic service provides an invaluable, and unique, daily account of British press coverage of the Middle East. The BBC has for years punctured local news censorship in the Arab world and Israel by translating and broadcasting British newspaper reports - stories that are often embarrassing to local regimes.

From their own experience, Arab listeners know the difference between government-inspired news and independent information - which is why the press review is one of the most popular programmes beamed to the Middle East.
