The Conservative Party's director of communications has accused the BBC of "failing in its duty as a public service broadcaster". In today's Sunday Telegraph, Charles Lewington claims there is "such a heady level of excitement at the BBC that it is seriously impairing its editorial judgment and duty to be impartial. New Labour... has gone to [its] head." Richard Ayre, deputy chief executive of BBC News, said: "The BBC is absolutely committed to impartiality."
