ANIMAL rights activists were yesterday condemned after attacking the wrong target in an anti-vivisection protest. They poured creosote into a swimming pool in a campaign against Brighton council in East Sussex, only to discover it is privately run.
The Animal Liberation Front claimed responsibility for damage to Saltdean Lido, which was to protest at the council's decision to host a conference on animal experiments. But Kevin Sadler, a businessman, who took over the running of the pool, said: 'We are outraged the fools should pick on a private individual.'
Meanwhile, police reinforcements were called in to guard the Brighton centre where the Laboratory Animals Science Association is staging its annual conference.
