An adopted man who was brought up as an orthodox Jew but found at the age of 28 that he was of Anglo-Arab parentage was told by the High Court Family Division that he could not set aside his adoption to visit his Arab-Muslim father in Kuwait.
Jonathan B, 35, born in Liverpool to a university student, was adopted by a couple who were told he was Jewish. He had emigrated to Israel where people assumed he was an Arab. He made inquries and discovered his true parentage. The judge said he was in an 'appalling dilemma' but that the adoption was 'procedurally correct'. Jonathan, who was not named, plans to appeal.
