More than 20,000 people have gathered for the annual August bank holiday event, now in its 21st year, which has become the largest and most controversial Christian festival of its kind in the world. Last year, the experimental group The Nine O'Clock Service, from Sheffield, shocked worshippers with a house-music service. The year before, a male white witch was invited to explain his beliefs. This year's theme for the festival in Deene Park is 'Field of Dreams'. Tomorrow, the singer Cliff Richard will give an informal performance on stage.
