MP to stand down

Michael Alison, Tory MP for Selby, North Yorkshire, said he will stand down at the next election. Mr Alison, who had a majority of 9,508 at the last election after a swing of 4.7 per cent from Labour, said his age ('close on 70') was 'more appropriate for retirement' than for fighting elections.
