Warning over deadly `ecstasy'

Police are warning rave-goers that they may have been sold potentially lethal tables disguised as ecstasy.

Officers in Cheshire believe some tablets intended to oxygenate fish tanks were circulated by rogue dealers at an event during the weekend. Medical experts say the small white pills can cause a burning sensation in the mouth and can seriously damage health by lowering blood pressure.

A police spokeswoman said that if a user took more than one tablet they "would be putting themselves at serious risk". She added: "We believe a number of the tablets were circulated at a rave at the Northgate Arena in Chester on Friday night ... "We would warn anyone [with] symptoms to go and see a doctor and we are also appealing for anyone who may have acquired one of the tablets to get in touch with us."
