This weekend for the first time in 115 years every public house in Wales will open on a Sunday. In 1881 the Sunday Closing (Wales) Act shut all pubs in the principality until 1961 when districts were given the choice in referendums held every seven years.

In Caernarfon, when the result of a poll turned the Dwyfor district, the last "dry" area "wet" by a margin of 24,325 votes to 9,829. In Rhondda Cynon Taff, an attempt by the "dry" camp to close pubs was defeated by 24,863 to 3,427. Tony Heath
