KUWAIT (Reuter) - The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmed al-Sabah, accepted the resignation of the prime minister and the cabinet yesterday, two days after elections in the emirate produced a parliament likely to press for the government to be made more accountable.
The resignation, to allow the Emir to appoint a new cabinet, follows Kuwait's first poll in six years for a fully elected parliament, in which government opponents won between 27 and 35 of the 50 elected seats.
