Port-au-Prince (AP) - The army announced yesterday that it had agreed to United Nations-brokered negotiations to advance democracy in Haiti. It had also agreed to the appointment of an interim prime minister, said a UN source, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The army announcement, on state television, followed the delivery of a letter from the exiled President, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, in which he agreed to negotiate with coup supporters for the first time since his overthrow in September 1991.
