China and Britain opened a ninth round of talks yesterday on Hong Kong's future elections after a three-week recess, AP reports from Peking.

Britain's ambassador, Robin McLaren, who has been away on holiday, told China's Vice-Foreign Minister, Jiang Enzhu: 'Certainly we on the British side, despite my absence, have been doing a lot of work. And we hope during this round to share some of the results of that work with you.'
