Iran 'not trying to kill Rushdie'

The Iranian government 'is not seeking to eliminate' the author Salman Rushdie, the Iranian ambassador to France, Hamidreza Assefi, said yesterday, AFP reports from Paris. The ambassador told a Paris press conference that 'the (Iranian) government is not seeking to eliminate Mr Rushdie. We have never from the start had any intention of sending a commando unit' to kill the writer.
