Sri Lanka police claimed they had 'positively identified' the assassin who blew up president Ranasinghe Premadasa at a May Day rally, AFP reports from Colombo. The Crime Detective Bureau said the name of the killer was Kulaweerasingham Veerakumar, who was from the Jaffna peninsula in the north.
