Mubarak on Lockerbie talks

CAIRO (Reuter) - Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak, who has tried for nine months to resolve Libya's crisis with the West over airliner bombings, held surprise talks with the entire Libyan leadership yesterday. An Egyptian state television report from Tripoli suggested they might discuss the possibility that two men accused of bombing a Pan Am plane in 1988 might give themselves up for trial in Scotland.

The United Nations Security Council imposed an air and arms embargo on Libya on 15 April because it failed to hand over the suspects. The Council is due to review the sanctions on Saturday and Western governments are likely to press for tougher measures.
