Logging, hunting and the steady loss of forests have made primates the most imperilled group of animals on the planet. Only one species is increasing in numbers: humans. Nearly half of the 235 primates, including chimpanzees which are our closest evolutionary relatives, are threatened with extinction. Another 20 percent are approaching that status, said a report published by Worldwatch Institute.
