PORT-AU-PRINCE (AP) - Haiti's military-backed president Emile Jonassaint quit, completing the sweep of the ruling junta before President Jean-Bertrand Aristide's expected return on Saturday. The formal resignation of Mr Jonassaint was broadcast on radio.
Panama agreed to take in General Cedras and he was expected to arrive last night, according to a senior foreign ministry official. 'We received a faxed letter this afternoon from President Aristide asking Panama to accept Cedras and we have agreed,' the official said.
